Sump Pump Program Toronto

Nusite Group is here to work with you to protect your home against basement flooding. The City of Toronto now offers a Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program which may save you from serious costs incurred from basement flooding.

Our weather is clearly changing here in Toronto and in response to the increasing dangers presented by increased rainfall, the program encourages homeowners to take action to reduce the risk of basement flooding on their own private property. By isolating your home from the City’s sewer system, it is less likely to flood from the backflow of overtaxed storm water or sewage pipes when there is heavy rainfall.

Sump Pump Program Toronto

How The Basement Flooding Subsidy Program Works

The City offers owners of single-family, duplex and triplex residential homes a financial subsidy of up to $3,400 per property to install flood protection devices including a backwater valve, a sump pump, and pipe severance and capping of the home’s storm sewer or external weeping tile connection. Nusite Group can prepare the application for you and do the waterproofing work required, making the process simple and seamless.

The property must first be assessed to decide whether it is possible to isolate the property from the City’s sewer system. Once this has been done, the City will pay for the following work:

Installation of a Backwater Valve – After consultation with Nusite Group, we may recommend a backwater valve on the sanitary sewage and/or stormwater connection to protect your home. Backwater valves prevent sewage and stormwater from flowing back into you home when the pipes are full. The City will pay for 80% of our invoiced costs (maximum $1,250) including eligible labour, materials, permit and taxes to install a backwater valve.

Installation of a Sump Pump – After consultation, we may recommend that you have a sump pump installed. This is required to manage the increased amount of water that would normally collected by footing weeping tiles that drain to the sanitary, storm or combined sewer. Installation of a sump pump requires concrete work and a back-up power source is also recommended. The City will pay for 80% of our invoiced costs (maximum $1,750) including eligible labour, materials, permit and taxes.

Pipe Severance and Capping – We may also recommend that the foundation drains (weeping tiles) be disconnected from the City’s sewer system by severing and capping the underground sewer connection. The City will pay for 80% of our invoiced costs (maximum $4000) including eligible labour, materials, permit and taxes.

The City of Toronto will review each application for eligibility and we will prepare the application for you. Only existing homes within the City of Toronto area qualify and be either a single-family residence, duplex or triplex. All homes must have their eavestrough downspouts properly disconnected from the City sewer system, where possible.

A detailed invoice will provided for each service that we provide, as required by the subsidy program. As subsidies for eligible work are subject to available funding and provided on a first-come, first-served basis, it is highly recommended that you take advantage of this program quickly. With our weather becoming increasingly erratic, it is a strong possibility that this is work needed in the future anyway. Why not save 80% while you can?
